NJHS is an organization that exists in most American schools. It recognizes and encourages academic achievement while also developing the ideals of character, service, citizenship and leadership, essential to citizens in a democracy. Selection to NJHS is a privilege, not a right. NJHS is more than just an honor roll. Although the first list of candidates for NJHS is obtained from the students’ academic performance, there is also a great emphasis in the other components of the selection process.

Membership to the National Junior Honor Society is both an honor and a responsibility. Students selected for membership are expected to always demonstrate the qualities for which they were selected.

In order to be considered for selection, students must:
-     Have a GPA of 3.3 or above at the end of the first semester, including
semester exams.
-     None of the quarter final grades may be below 2.8
-     Students must have a record clean of discipline referrals and a limited
number of tardies (maximum of 6 in the semester)

Based on this, the list of candidates is published in the Middle School hallway and students are invited to attend a presentation about what it would mean to be a member of NJHS. If sure of the commitment, students will fill out an application form. Then, the list of students is given to each team leader, so they can meet with all the grade level teachers and together, based on the criteria already mentioned choose the strongest candidates, and new members of NJHS

New members won’t know about the final decision until the moment of their induction.
Once students become part of NJHS they will work on various Social Service Projects in and outside the school. Also they will help organize activities in the school and attend leadership or character development workshops among others.
